So, dogs do that too.I can't count how many night and naps were ended by cats suddenly jumping onto my chest for the same.
At least this one does. xD Sometimes it's not paw, but tongue. His tongue has been in my mouth countless of times when he's surprised me while I've still been sleeping. :D
